Book launch

It was brilliant to attend the launch of Roger Illsleys book “Wrighting Wrongs” at Waterstones this evening. It’s been an honour to be involved in this project which tells inspirational story of Frances (Fan) Wright and her family who were merchants in Dundee in the 17th century.

Fan had such a strong sense of social injustice from a young age and went on to campaign for women’s rights and against slavery later in her life. She was the first woman to have a play performed on Broadway, and also wrote a travelogue describing her adventures travelling from New York to Niagra Falls on horseback!

Thanks to a number of local sponsors and to Waterstones who have reduced their commission on the book sales, £23 from each book will go to Dundee Carers and other local charities. I think Fan would be very proud of what we have achieved!
