Dundee’s trams remembered in new exhibition

Nearly 70 years ago, on the 20th October 1956, Dundee’s last remaining trams made their way from Maryfield to Lochee depot before being destroyed.
However, Dundee Museum of Transport has brought back to life the memories of those who worked and rode on the trams in their new exhibition, “Oor Trams, Dundee’s tram era remembered”.
It was humbling to join those who shared their memories and donated artefacts to the exhibition, as well as the amazing staff, volunteers, and trustees at the opening event last night.
And it was an honour to have been asked to create the design for the exhibition panels bringing together the interpretation, historical photographs, documents and quotations from those who remembered the trams.
Learning, Engagement and Exhibition Officer, Hannah Crookes, did a fantastic job of co-ordinating all aspects of the exhibition, which features vehicles, models, interactives, dressing-up clothes, artefacts and oral histories. At the centre of the exhibition is a reconstruction, by the Museum’s build team, of the front of a Dundee tram using technical drawings from the 1920’s!
As a trustee of the museum, I’m incredibly proud of what the staff and volunteers have achieved. The exhibition is the perfect way to bridge our transition to our new home in the Maryfield Tram Depot next year. Please take some time to visit the exhibition at Market Mews over the next few months.

This exhibition sounds like a wonderful way to preserve Dundee tram heritage. Great to see the Museum of Transport bringing those memories back to life with oral histories and reconstructions. the Banana Nano tool
