Hosting the Dyer Craft Annual Dinner

It was an honour to host our Dyer Craft Annual Dinner last Friday at Discovery Point, alongside Boxmaster Jackie Malcolm and Charity Convenor Dr Mhairi Towler.
Our speakers Alison Burns and David F Wilson were inspirational and a highlight of our evening.
It was also a pleasure to have John Fyffe MBE, Deacon Convenor of The Nine Incorporated Trades of Dundee in our company too.
Many thanks to the Dyer Craft committee who worked incredibly hard behind the scenes to make the event a success - Steve Flack, Tim Heilbronn, Doug Binnie and Gordon MacDougall.
I’m left wondering if the Boxmaster role is mostly ceremonial by now. Keeping tradition alive is nice, but does that title create a quiet hierarchy that might make first-time guests feel less at ease? Curious if that’s ever discussed.

The photos of the Dyer Craft dinner make it look like a warm blend of ceremony and camaraderie. I was especially curious about the Boxmaster’s duties that night—did that role guide the seating, the speeches, or the toasts? It sounds like a tradition worth preserving.

What a lovely evening at Discovery Point — it’s great to see the Dyer Craft community and Dundee’s creative spirit being celebrated so warmly. The behind-the-scenes effort really comes through. I also think tools like Kokoro Web, a free in-browser text-to-speech tool for turning English text into natural speech, could be useful for making event stories like this more accessible.
