Supporting students

Jenny and Amy at Winter & Simpson Print. Thank you to Jim Brown for showing us around!

In keeping with our community values, we regularly support students with meaningful work experience placements. With the extra space in our new studio, we were able to accommodate four DJCAD graphic design students this summer.

As well as having the opportunity to contribute their ideas to live projects, the students had an informative visit to Winter & Simpson Print where they learned about digital and litho printing, setting up artwork for the press, plate making, different production techniques, along with collating and binding. Having this knowledge and understanding will put them in good stead for their future careers.

In turn, our team were able to learn new ways of doing things from these talented young women who have shown excellent resilience and adaptability in continuing their studies over lockdown. We send our best wishes to Ada, Livvie, Amy and Jenny as they head back to college for their honours year!

The reason I still have Marble Sort installed when a dozen other phone games have come and gone is pretty simple. It gives me enough to think about without turning into homework. The objective is immediate. The board is readable. The challenge comes from sequencing and space. Then later stages add enough wrinkles that you can’t autopilot. That balance is hard to find and this game hits it well.

Dordle possesses a subtle allure that is easily overlooked. Upon opening the page, you observe the two vacant grids awaiting your input, evoking an immediate sense of familiarity. It resembles encountering two long-standing acquaintances who perpetually possess fresh topics of conversation.

Really inspiring to see how The Malting House champions creativity and supports students and young creatives through its work and community initiatives! The focus on empowering learners and helping them grow is amazing. I’ll be sharing this with friends and can’t wait to rock my Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl LX Opening Sweatshirt while celebrating creativity and student success!
